The Company History
In 2000, CCP began its second decade of association with our majority partner, Total Composites, Inc. (TCI).
Since 1990, CCP has operated as a joint venture with TCI, which itself operates within the chemicals division of TOTAL, a multibillion-dollar oil, gas, refining, chemical, mineral, mining and trading company based in Paris, France.
In 1999, TOTAL acquired PetroFina and, in 2000, Elf Aquitaine. Now the leading petrochemicals producer in Europe, TOTAL is one of the largest oil companies in the world with operations in 100 countries.
As a result of these mergers, CCP is associated with Cray Valley and Sartomer companies. Together, the three companies rank second worldwide in production of resins, and comprise one of the largest chemical companies in the world. This international association has opened numerous avenues of worldwide exchange for CCP with regard to opportunities through shared technologies and access to new markets.
Throughout the past dozen-plus years, CCP has continually strengthened manufacturing and research capacities, product depth, and distribution networks through a series of business arrangements, major capital investments, and acquisitions.
Composites
The world’s largest and leading producer of polyester gel coats, CCP formed the largest composites distributor network in North America in 1999.
The network combined six distributors: Composites Materials, Inc. (CMI), based in Santa Fe Springs, California; R.P. Associates, LLC, headquartered in Bristol, Rhode Island; and four Canadian companies that include Progress Plastics and Compounds Inc., Mississauga, Ontario, Progress Plastiques, CIE and Arkem Compagnie, Inc., both in Drummondville, Quebec, and United Fiberglass Distributors Inc., Downsview, Ontario. A subsequent joint venture with GLS created Composites One, the world’s largest composite and cast polymer distributor.
Coatings Resins
Along with associated companies Cray Valley and Sartomer, CCP is the second largest producer of coatings resins in the world. CCP’s coating resins products—both liquid and powder—are available through CCP directly and CCP’s resins distributor, Peninsula Polymers, LLC.
Peninsula Polymers currently has seven distribution locations throughout the United States. In addition to CCP products, Peninsula Polymers also distributes rheology, surface modifier, flow, anti-settling and anti-sag additives from Cray Valley; amino resins from Cytec, a complete line of liquid/solid epoxies, reactive diluents/modifiers and curing agents from Hexion; specialty solvent-borne/water-borne resins from Sur Quimica de Costa Rica; and UV absorbers, hindered amine light stabilizers, optical brighteners, antioxidants, powder additives and photo-initiators from Chemark. Peninsula Polymers also has a line of private label products, including polyurethane dispersions and aliphatic/aromatic polyisocyanates. Together, the CCP and Peninsula Polymers product lines comprise the broadest coatings additives/resins product range currently being offered from a single source in North America. |
