Gel coats are used in the manufacture of many products, from boats to bathroom shower stalls. Types and qualities of gel coats are numerous. Selection of the proper gel coat is critical, as it is the first layer of protection and the surface first seen on any given product or part.
Gel coats are made from unsaturated polyester polymers and contain acids and glycols; changing these acids and glycols changes the characteristics of the gel coat. CCP gel coats are primarily made from the following chemistries:
- Isophthalic acid
- Neopentyl glycol
Many of CCP's gel coats are pigmented in order to obtain a particular color. The pigment acts as the primary light stabilizer and therefore light stabilizers are usually not added to pigmented gel coats. Pigmented gel coats are used in many composite applications.
Clear gel coats are also made by CCP and are formulated for a variety of applications, mainly for the marine and marble industries. These gel coats are light stabilized and are fairly flexible.
CCP serves many industries with the most complete line of high quality gel coats in the world. These industries include:
- Infrastructure
- Cultured Marble
- Marine
- Transportation
- MACT Compliant
